If you would like to know what libertarianism is all about, have questions about it you always wanted to know answers to or simply disagree with libertarians and want to ask uncomfortable questions, come to Dr Stephen Davies’ talk in Oxford on 12 February 2012 at 7.00pm. This event is particularly suitable for PPE students. (Facebook event)
The video of David Friedman’s lecture on “Global Warming, Population and the Problem With Externality Arguments” (more information about the event) delivered yesterday in Oxford is now available online.
The debate on climate change is a very polarized one, but between the “Climate Change Is Real So Let’s Do Something And Do It Fast Or We’re All Gonna Die” camp and the “Your Science is Fake, Climate Change Ain’t Happening” camp there are moderates like our speaker Professor David Friedman.
Even if we accept that climatologists’ projections are correct, there is no need to jump to conclusions about drastic reductions in carbon emissions and devoting valuable resources to production of energy in relatively inefficient ways. Professor Friedman will discuss the problems of rational response to the issue of climate change, including how to estimate net externalities as a basis for policy.
